This Week: Yearly decluttering, Birthday banner

Or should I say the last month in the kitchen.

I express my apologies for this. Let’s recap how we wrapped up January so we could walk into February with high hopes and good moral.

Decluttering: Every January I take the month to do major decluttering and deep cleaning. I go through every drawer, closet, cupboard, what nook or cranny we have in this house I put my eyes and hand on it.

I was able to get rid of so much stuff. If you are new here, we recently moved last fall to a beautiful piece of land that I am so grateful to have.

But so much stuff that worked well in the old house simply had no place here. So out it went! I am no minimalist and lean more toward that ‘cottage-core’ trend, but everything must earn their keep around here.

In the end, it feels good to get all your belongings accounted for and put away. It’s my favorite way to start off any new year and prepare us for the future.

Kitchen Makeover Plans: Through this decluttering spell I decided that I need to finally finish some projects here in the kitchen.

Not for the sake of social media reaction but simply because I spend a great deal of time in here.

We also plan to have a huge garden now that we have the space to do so. That means a kitchen that will be able to keep up with preserving efforts is a definite must.

Unfortunately, there are some major projects needed to be done in here. But for now, I purchased some beadboard wallpaper and going to give it a good coat of brown or green paint. Spruce up the looks and organization to make the flow just right and be happy about it.

Gardening: I did get my big seed box down and put my eyes on them. I pulled out a table and my seed starting tools that I use. However, seeds don’t start until the first week of March for me. I will most definitely keep everyone up to date on my seed starting routine and what I am growing this year.

Thrifting: I am so thankful to thrift. My major thrift find this month was a very large (probably 12 qt) stock pot. Our old one cracked and I wasn’t really pumped to spend a ton of money on a new one. This one I found for $8 and it’s good as new. Again, so thankful.

We also had a birthday to celebrate hence the home-sewn banners pictured below.

We are still thick in homeschooling. Which as my third year doing it, homeschooling has finally come to a great routine and has become much easier to accomplish.

Also, trying to get outside as much as possible, along with taking care of our bodies through good food.

For an update, that’s it.

The thick of winter is easing and that we are so thankful to see another season come and go.

This week I want to stay present in the last parts of this season of rest so I can fully enjoy whatever work that lays ahead.

With many prayers and with our eyes rested on things above, I will see you next week!
