Seed Organizing with Recycled Magazines

No better place to upcycle or recycle than in your garden beds.

But it doesn’t have to stop outside; these recycled envelopes are perfect size to fit seed packets and you can use your seed catalogs or old magazines you have piling up.

Here I will show you how you can recycle old magazines or seed catalogs into these envelopes to help you organize your seeds.

Let’s Dive In..

Recycled Seed Envelopes from Seed Catalogs or Magazines

Tools you Need:

  • Seed catalog or magazine; you can also use craft paper in normal printer size (8x 11.5)
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Box to fit them all

Instructions:

  1. You first need to make your paper a square; simply fold down diagonally and tear off the remaining paper at the bottom.
  2. Then you take three corners and fold them into the middle
  3. Tape the three corners in the middle to create the pocket (you can be creative here and use craft washi tape if you want)
  4. Slide your seed packets in and label the upper flap (if you want).
  5. If you have loose seeds (say ones you gathered yourself), simply place the seeds inside a small snack bag and slide them into the envelope. You can easily fold down the top flap and secure it that way for loose seeds too.
  6. Find a box that will fit all your envelopes snug. It helps when they are standing straight up for easy grabbing (pictured below).

I also recycled the box I hold them in too.

Seeds don’t care what they look like, but they must be kept dry and in a cool spot like a closet or a basement so they don’t spoil.

That’s It!

It’s a fast and easy thing to do, which is really nice when you have several to make.

Plus, those seed catalogs have some great pictures and it’s a fun way to upcycle your old ones.

I know these envelopes won’t last years but at least my big box of seeds looks nice and organized now.

Enjoy!

Happy Gardening!
