This semi-homemade waffle recipe is a great way to use up some fresh apples in your fridge (especially if they went a little soft on you), without much fuss.
Leftovers freeze great, and picky eaters should be able to tolerate this waffle recipe since the apples melt right into the waffle batter.
Here I go into ingredients, tools you need, and instructions on how to make these delicious Fresh Apple Waffles.
Let’s Dive In..
Fresh Apple Waffles | Waffles using Fresh Fruit Recipe
Tools you need
- Small saucepan
- Mixing bowl
- Waffle Iron
Ingredients
Apple Mixture:
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, shredded with a cheese grater (about 1 cup of shredded apples)
- If you want a sharp apple taste, use Granny Smith. If not, any apple will do.
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon water
Waffle Batter:
- 2 cups of your favorite waffle/pancake mix
- 1.5 cups water
- 2 eggs
- 1-2 teaspoons of apple pie spice (or cinnamon; please use as much as you wish)
- 1 tablespoon oil or melted butter
- Pinch of salt
- Apple mixture
Instructions
Makes about 8 waffles
- Peel and shred your apples. You can alternatively chop your apples finely, but a cheese grater makes this task very easy.
- Make Apple Mixture: add the shredded apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water to your saucepan. Place on medium heat and cook until apples are soft, and water has evaporated. About 10 minutes
- Allow apples to cool for 5-10 minutes, so they don’t cook any of the eggs in the batter.
- Preheat your waffle iron.
- In your mixing bowl, mix your waffle mix, water, eggs, apple pie spice, and salt together, using a whisk. Mix well.
- Once apples are cooled a bit, mix in the apple mixture to your batter.
- Make your waffles in your waffle iron, according to the waffle maker instructions, and to the toast level your prefer.
- Serve warm. Enjoy!

That’s It!
We currently have Blondies stocked up in our fridge for the autumn season, and I always seem to come across a couple that are starting to go soft; these waffles are currently my favorite way to use them up without just tossing them to the chickens or getting any sort of canning gear out.
If you are looking for a sharp apple taste aim to use Granny Smith apples, as mentioned above.
Enjoy!
