Making this pizza at home is surprisingly easy, although it sounds fancy.
With the help of your stand mixer, this pizza crust recipe uses your sourdough starter and a few staple pantry ingredients.
Here we go over the tools you need, ingredients, and instructions on how to make and bake a sourdough pizza crust.
Let’s Dive In…
Sourdough Pizza Recipe
This recipe makes about 1 large thin crust pizza or one medium size regular crust pizza.
You can also make a couple personal pizzas with this recipe, too.
Tools you Need:
- Stand Mixer with dough hook
- Large Bowl
- Tea Towel
- Pizza Pan, cookie sheet, or pizza stone
Ingredients:
Dough:
- 1 cup active sourdough starter (well fed starter)
- 3/4 cups water
- 1.5 teaspoon sea salt
- 2-2.5 cups of all-purpose flour
Pizza Toppings:
- Pizza sauce: garden styled, freezer friendly recipe here
- Cheese of your choice (mild cheddar, paremesan, mozzarella all work well)
- Meat: pepperoni, sausage bits, etc
- Veggies: peppers, onions, etc
Instructions:
Dough:
- In your mixer, add starter, water, salt. Mix until milky.
- Slowly add your flour 1/2 cup at a time. You are aiming for a soft, pliable dough that holds it’s shape, without it being too sticky to handle.
- Knead in stand mixer for about 5 mins until well mixed and smooth.
- Place in oil lined bowl and let sit for minimum of 1 hour with 2-4 hours being ideal.
Pizza:
- If using meat or veggies for toppings: go ahead and cook or sauté until cooked through. Baking alone will not cook the vegetable or meat by itself.
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F and place oven rack on bottom.
- Take your pizza pan or cookie sheet and lightly sprinkle it with flour or cornmeal.
- Turn your dough out onto your pizza pan or cookie sheet. If using a pizza stone, follow the instructions for that.
- Press and roll your dough flat until it’s as big as you wish for your pizza to be. You can use your hands or a rolling pin.
- Add sauce, cheese, and other cooked toppings.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Depending on how thick you made your crust, you may need more time. The bottom crust should be crisp and lightly golden brown when done.
- Enjoy!
